 What a pesky young thing!

Odin

aka ‘the ASBO’

Odin is a young male crow who came to our sanctuary from another wildlife rehabilitator after being brought to him by the RSPCA. He had fallen out of the nest and been found by a member of the public who then contacted the RSPCA.

Odin has always been a big lad with a big personality to match! Unfortunately Odin became very tame through hand-rearing and so was unsuitable for release. He also has a problem with his wing which, while not stopping him flying, obviously affects his flight to a degree. No injury was found, but we suspect it may have its origins in when he fell from the nest.

Odin loves people. Sometimes it takes a while for him to get to know you, but he can usually be won over by giving him a piece of paper or an envelope which he loves to rip up!

He does have issues with my partner, who he attacks with a vengence - no amount of bribery can stop the onslaught! We think that he must get jealous of him because he sees me as his mate - which pleases Jason no end!

Odin is quite a Houdini (’Crowdini’ we sometimes call him)! He can figure out any lock you put on his cage and it is entertaing for guests to watch him pecking and prodding away at a metal clasp until it falls to the floor.

Odin gets special treatment in terms of his aviary, which is in the living-room of our house. If he were outside on his own for too long, he would shout and scream for me! He does go out during the day in the summer months, but always comes into the house on an evening, where he sits and watches telly with us.

Odin is the only crow we have at Corvid Aid that talks. His vocabulary includes “hello”, “what?” and “no”. He also makes lots of other strange undescribable noises, but we won’t go into those here!

Odin is always up to no good and is at his happiest when he is destroying something or making a row!
