Zippy
AKA ‘The Flash’
Zippy was brought in by Sarah (our local animal-welfare officer) as the lady who had found him as a tiny baby, and had subsequently reared him, felt he was too tame to be released and wanted him to go somewhere more suitable. Sarah thought that maybe I could have a go at dehumanizing him…Yeah right!
He is one of the tamest birds I’ve ever come across! You can’t go into the aviary without him sitting on your head or shoulder! He also likes ‘helping out’ when I’m hosing down the aviary. His favourite pastime is to get under the hose when it’s on mist-setting for a nice little shower, bless!
Zippy lives with Squiffy the magpie – please don’t try this at home! Squiffy has a sweet and gentle nature and I would trust her with any small bird, in fact it’s Zippy who rules the roost! Squiffy lets him eat first and makes sure to get out of the way for him! Zippy can be quite mischievious with Squiffy though and often tugs on her tail and then flies off!
Living with Squiffy has certainly made an impression on Zippy – he now cackles like a magpie, I think he thinks he is one!
