Willow

aka ‘the grump’

Willow is a captive bred barn owl. He came to us after being found near Doncaster lost and starving. He was wearing a closed BBC ring which indicated he was captive bred.

Willow has a deformed foot which was possibly caused through neglect by his previous owner.

We attempted to trace his owner, but had no luck, so we decided Willow could spend the rest of his life here at the sanctuary, where he will be spoilt rotten!

We found out through Willow’s ring number that he is nine years old, although to be truthful, he seems more like a baby!

Willow is quite a character, he enjoys his food – especially his mice! He is very well behaved at feeding time and will fly to my fist for his meal. He also enjoys the mornings when we clean him out and will sit on the mop-bucket to make sure we are doing the job properly. He also likes to climb on up arms to sit on our shoulders or head to get a better view, which can be painful!

Willow can also be a grump at times (typical male)! He stamps his foot and hisses or makes himself look big and scary when he is upset about something. He has also been known to attack boots and shoes, if your attention is no longer wanted! He is grumpy, but much loved too and we wouldn’t want to have him any other way!
